"The Glorious Youth of Islam" Shaykh ‘Alaa el-Sayed
Assalamualaykum dear Brothers and Sisters,
Youth is the most critical stage of an individual’s life. It is during this stage when one begins to mould their lifestyle and personality, and thus set the course for the remainder of their lives. For many, this course centers on the pursuit of a materialistic lifestyle. However, is pursuing wealth and comfort the only goal in life for us Muslims? What happens to us when our lives end, and how will we succeed in the Hereafter? How will we answer to Allah (swt) when He asks us how we used our youth, our wealth and our health?
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) implored the youth among his companions as well as the youth of future generations to utilize their young age and good health to worship and obey Allah (swt) in the best manner. Countless Muslim youth heeded to his (saw) advice, such as Imam Shafi (rahimullah), who became a classical scholar of the highest order during his teenage years. What have we done to accept the Prophet (saw)’s advice, or to emulate the glorious youth of the past?
On Wednesday July 14th, the Wilfrid Laurier University Muslim Student Association is pleased to announce its FREE summer speaker event with Shaykh ‘Alaa el-Sayed titled “The Glorious Youth of Islam”. Shaykh ‘Alaa acquired his Bachelors in Shari’ah from the American International University. He also received a scholarship from the Shariah Academy in Egypt/Florida. He was also on the board of directors of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, as well as current Director of Religious Affairs for the Islamic Centre of Canada.
